The texture of the gold leaf is worked, scratched, alive—it’s not a smooth, triumphant gold, it’s a gold that has lived, that bears traces. The stacking of the three ovals creates a figure without being one—one hesitates between a totem, a decomposing face, pebbles in balance, a flattened Brancusi figure. The connection to the sacred is immediate but never ostentatious.”
