“What’s remarkable here is the collision of registers: a hyperrealistic tennis court seen from above, and at the bottom of the canvas, a baroque carpet border, flowers and blue arabesques, which emerges like a dream or a memory. The player is chasing a fluorescent yellow ball, but his shadow is chasing him. There’s something of David Hockney in the pink and green chromatism, but the shift towards oriental ornamentation makes it a truly unique work.”
